Holton Hall Park is situated just off the B1124 as one exits Holton en route to Beccles. It stands in a landscaped area having both a lake and shielded from the main road by a wood, giving better privacy. Each unit has electricity and water supplies. In 1994 Holton Hall Park was given the status of a 'County Wildlife Site', by the Waveney District Council, thus protecting it from further development, at least for the immediate future. The site itself is classed as a caravan park and as such has to close during the months of January to March. Daily security checks are carried out there and this includes the close down period.
Holton Hall Park provides a country retreat where the town dwellers amongst us can escape to nature. Now with County Wildlife status it is a recognised wildlife site.
The lake and the wood are a magnet for wildlife such as water voles. Carp and various other fish swim there, which in turn attract cormorant, herons, and seagulls. Many rare species of plants and ferns can be found round the lake. There are Mallard, Pochard and Tufted ducks.
The wildlife is varied ranging from the various species of deer, fox, rabbits, squirrel, stoats, moles, hedgehogs, and bats. There are butterflies, moths and grasshoppers. Many birds including owls, pigeons, and pheasants. In the wood can be found many different types of fungi.
The Suffolk Wildlife Trust have been helpful in organising nature walks, often two or three a year. These normally have a theme and include Fungi forays in autumn, spring and summer walks to instruct people on the various ferns, and other plants that abound. A marked trail starts close to the site office, takes one through the wood and finishes near to the lake. This includes steps up the slopes, and bridges over the ditches.
The location is central to many tourist attractions, it is within easy reach of many East Anglian seaside resorts, and day trips can be made to Yarmouth, Norwich, Bressingham, Sandringham and the like.
